Mold can be very dangerous and is not something that should be taken lightly. Black mold grows in areas of the home and can lead to a lot of dangerous health problems. It is important to take the proper safety precautions in order to protect you and your family from being further exposed. One way is to hire a professional to take care of it, but if you are going to do it yourself then you need to ensure your safety at each of the steps.
The first thing that you should do before you even start the mold removal is to prepare the room that you’ll be removing the mold from. First, you want to seal it off, so that if any mold does become airborne, it doesn’t not settle in other areas of the house. Also, open a window and point a fan facing out of the window. Limit access to the room to only those who will be working on removing the mold. Lastly, wet the mold down using a wash rag or a sponge so that it isn’t dry. When black mold is dry and it is scrubbed, it can be released into the air.
The next thing you need to do is to prepare yourself and protect yourself. Using a surgeon’s mask is helpful so that you do not accidently breathe in the air through your nose or mouth. Proper eye protection is important, so any type of shop glasses or even regular glasses should work. Wear old clothes so that if they become stained or ruined by the cleaning solution, then it won’t matter as much. Wear long sleeves so that your arms and legs are not exposed as well.
Once you have taken these steps, you’ll be able to begin the black mold removal process. While it is fairly simple, especially if it is not a large area, it is important to protect yourself and your family by taking the proper steps before the mold removal process begins.
