Eternity for women is (together with CK One) without a doubt the most famous and best selling perfume by Calvin Klein. It was launched in 1988 with its peak during the nineties, and was inspired by the designer’s wedding from the year before. The masculine version Eternity for men was launched the following year and enjoyed almost the same level of success.
The opening is sweet and floral, with a mix of easily recognizable aromas, where a floral violet stands out (it reminds of the style of Ultraviolet by Paco Rabanne, but more classic), but also roses, freesia, lily-of-the-valley, and soft oranges. At the beginning of the middle notes violet is still dominant, but it starts to lower its intensity, and what remains in the foreground are sweet florals with a touch spicy note, possibly pepper or clove, and a more mature flower like spikenard, or a narcissus or a soft hyacinth. Among the florals and the spices, sweet citrus notes appear, probably the oranges of the opening. The base notes are dominated by sweet roses, with a residual violet, plus a powdery, a little bitterer note of carnation. This mix is wrapped in a very light earthy aroma, which can be a wood or a very soft root.
This Calvin Klein perfume for women is a intense perfume with personality and its fame is well-deserved. The first impression that it gives is one of a fragrance for the office. It’s feminine, well-known, classic and not old. It can be worn any time of the year as it’s floral enough for the summer and lukewarm for the winter. For a night use it’s very good, and the proof is that its mix classic of flowers has been repeated in many other more recent evening perfumes. For a romantic use it can work well as florals are feminine and (although it’s a very popular fragrance) out of the ordinary. The ideal age range is between 25 and 50 years.
