Vitamin D And Blood Sugar Levels

Recent studies show that vitamin D levels can contribute to the effectiveness insulin in moving glucose from the blood to cells needing it for energy. If your blood sugar levels are elevated it might be wise to check on your vitamin D levels also to see that insulin is getting everything it needs to do its job of regulating blood sugar. Now a low vitamin D level is probably not the only reason blood sugar levels are elevated, but is most likely a symptom of a poor diet and a sedentary life style that spends too much time indoors planted in a chair in front of some screen-based activity and not enough time outdoors, in the sunshine involved in activities that get the body moving and help use some of that glucose in keeping muscles moving.
Supplements and pills are necessary for some people, but for the vast majority with elevated blood sugar levels they simply mask the real issue of a lifestyle that is out of balance and contributing to poor health. It may be hard to get started, but more exercise is one good way to get those levels heading back down. It doesn’t need to be boot camp type activity or difficult CrossFit exercise, but just starting to walk in the evenings or at lunch times lessens the amount of time spent sitting and uses your body the way it was designed to be used.
The other half is a poor diet and adding exercise doesn’t mean walking to the fast food place for meals. Those meals are full of added sugar and limiting that hidden added sugar should be a priority in changing how a person eats. Most people know what they need to eat, but actually going to the store and purchasing those items, lags behind the knowledge that they need to be purchased and changing those thoughts to activity is important. Take this opportunity to get back to exercising and eating better, your blood sugar levels will like you for it.
